David Almond was born in 1951 in Newcastle. After university he became a primary school teacher but resigned so that he could concentrate on his writing. He wrote lots of stories for magazines before his major breakthrough came with Skellig in 1998. He has since won many awards for his books.
The Library has most of his books including Skellig, Fire Eaters, Clay, and Heaven Eyes.
