Level 2 - Michelle Magorian

Michelle Magorian was born in Portsmouth in 1947. Her first ambition was to be an actress and she trained and worked as an actress in France. Her first book was Goodnight Mister Tom, which is an extremely popular story set in World War Two.

The Library has this book and her other books, including Back Home, A Little Love Song, and Be Yourself.

"Be Yourself" by Michelle Magorian

This book has many stories in it.
Story 1 " No Sweat".
This story is about a boy called Mark and he has to swim 200 metres between him and his team but his team don't show up ans he has to do it himself and he makes it.
Story 2 "The Greatest".
This story is about a boy called Kevin and his dad is auditioning for a part in 'Guys and Dolls' but Kevin doesn't want his dad to get the part because he will only see him on Sundays. Kevin watches his dad and decides to be suportive ans he is pround of his dad so then his dad tries even harder and he gets the part.
Story 3 "Dan".
This story is about a boy called Dan and he was supposed to meet his dad at the leisure centre but he doesn't show up and he was really angry so Dan goes to his dads flat and sees him sitting watching rugby with his friend. Dan was so angry that he walks out the room and doesn't speak to him. After a little while he said sorry and they were fine.
Story 4 "The Smile".
This story is about a boy called Josh and he has just moved house but he can't get any sleep becasue his mum just had a baby. The baby kept crying. Josh kept moaning beacuse his mum and dad kept arguing beacuse Josh wouldn't help with the baby. One day Josh's mum went for a bath ans asked him to help with the baby. He realised that it wasn't so bad and he liked it. He said sorry to his mum and dad and helps with the baby more often.
Story 5 "Beginners".
This story is about a boy called Tony who was doing a show and he done it all wrong. He started crying and he was very embarresed. His friends came into talk to him and after a little while and he dound out that it was only one mistake and it can just be forgotten so he went back on stage and got a professional scholarship.
Story 6 "Sorry".
This story is about Anna and David and they write letters to each other and try to arrange dates to meet up but David always says no sorry but they arranged one date and they met up and had a slpeepover.
I would recommend this book to 12-13 year olds.
